Since everyone is talking about them, I figured we should have a topic for them!
So... talk away!
How do you even 'cheat' pokemon, anyway?

Gameshark or Action Replay.
Action Replay, I've found, has less buggy issues but it's easier to delete all your codes at once and be back to zero.
I'm generally anti-cheat code, but I have no problem with people using them as long as it isn't for a real-world prize like money or what-have-you. I've used a Gameshark on one of my games but restarted after. I just like training Pokemon naturally more. Some people want to have a specific team and just want to have fun playing with cool or rare pokemon, and choose to skip the beating-the-game process. Sure. A video game is about enjoying yourself. I enjoy not using cheats.
You can get an AR or Gameshark at most game stores, and the codes save on 'em (they usually come with some in already) and there are varieties. Getting cool Pokemon, high levels, shinies, movesets, items of all sorts and volume, flying differently, etc. _________________ Avatar Image: Hazel, Just Gotta p.405 |

Where do I find these codes? _________________

All sorts of websites; Supercheats is a pretty good one. A lot of Gameshark codes, too.
I, myself, don't use cheats. They are fun to abuse, though. _________________ Back in my day, we didn't have no fancy shmancy running shoes. We had to WALK.

Yes, yes they are.
I use my shiny code to make any Pokemon I want appear and it can be shiny or not. I'll also give myself items like Fire Stones or hold items like Softsand. When going through the story, I'll use Lucky Eggs or a quick level up code to ensure my levels stay above my comptuer oppenent's. (I hate losing to the computer, okay, so I make sure it doesn't happen!) I also cheat code up TM's because I think it's stupid that I may only be able to get one of them depending on what it is. I don't Max out my money though because that's not as fun. If I need funds right away I just sell a bunch of TM's I don't use like Frustration.
. . . That's not too excessive, is it?
I dunno, I like cheat codes. I know other people don't so I don't force cheat code stuff on them if they don't want it. Like I won't put cheat coded Pokemon on the GTS. It's just kinda rude, I guess. (I ALMOST did once because it was a Mewtwo but I held to my rule.) I will go on the Wi-Fi with my cheated shinies now and then, and I'll usually get my butt kicked. So they don't give me an unfair advantage or nothin'. _________________ Credits to Oranges_and_Pears for the Mewthree avatar! Yay!

So, you hack to get any pokemon you want, but you don't hack the stats? _________________ Back in my day, we didn't have no fancy shmancy running shoes. We had to WALK.

Nope. I don't do anything to them except making them appear, and maybe making them level up faster. But even that turns on me because then they level up so fast they don't get a chance to get Ev points. (Not that I really care, but . . .)
I haven't even used my "Use Any TM/HM" code yet, but I want to. I've been talking about making a Spyro forever, but haven't yet! (Well, I have a Charizard on FireRed named Spyro, but he doesn't know Psychic so it'll be cooler when I get one that does.) _________________ Credits to Oranges_and_Pears for the Mewthree avatar! They're basically hidden experience points. The help increase stats. You get certain points for certain Pokemon. Like if you fight a Zubat, you get 1 Speed Ev point or something. If you get four of these points by the time you level up, then that stat will go up by one more than it would have.
I think that's how it works. _________________ Credits to Oranges_and_Pears for the Mewthree avatar! Yay!

I don't use cheat codes myself, mainly because it's more fun (in my opinion) to do things the legit way. Pok'emon that I've worked hard to breed, EV train, and level up myself always mean more to me.
I'm not as violently anti-cheat as I used to be; as long as the person hasn't altered the stats, or given the Pok'emon moves or abilities it shouldn't have (Sableye/Spiritomb with Wonder Guard? Oy...), I don't really care. Still... it IS a little frustrating to work hard to IV breed, EV-train, and earn the TMs I need to raise something awesome... and see someone whip up the same thing with zero effort and a few minutes with a cheat device =/
Oh, and regarding EV training, it DOES make a pretty significant difference, believe it or not. If you get the Power items from the Battle Tower exchange and have Pok'erus on the 'mon you're training, it also goes pretty quickly. I can fully EV a sweeper in about twenty minutes. Special tanks/walls take a little longer, because of the availability of wild Pok'emon that give special defense EVs. _________________

What about lucky eggs?
and can't you just use protein and hp up things as a substitute to ev points? _________________

You can, but there's a limit to how many of those a Pokemon can eat. These Evs can go beyond that, raising the stats even further.
Some real true purists even think that those Carbos and stuff are cheating too becuase you're still altering stats. Some people are just never happy! _________________ Credits to Oranges_and_Pears for the Mewthree avatar! Yay!

Oh well, too bad for them, then. I'd cheat stats, but I wouldn't go overboard. I would only do it to, say, Jigglypuff and chansey, and only to their attack and defense stats to make them better fighters. _________________

Raising a Pok'emon's stats beyond their normal limits would probably be considered "overboard," at least to most people. It would definitely get you busted in competitive, and while I don't agree with a lot of the accepted competitive rules, I do agree with that one =/
Anyway, Chansey's a waller/sponge, not a physical fighter
With the vitamins, a Pok'emon can only eat them if the stat you're using them on has less than 100 EVs in it already. And, I don't see how it's cheating, really... it's an in-game thing. Unless you're using a cheat device to give yourself a ton of vitamins
Doing all of your EV training with them gets expensive; if I have a bunch of extra money, I'll use them to make things go a little bit faster, but I usually only use them for Sp. Def. With a Power item and Pok'erus, you get the same amount of Speed EVs from battling one Magikarp that you'd get from a Carbos _________________

Speaking of EV's, my Feraligatr is level 36 with 83 defence..Is that good or bad? Because I'm training it to be a tank... _________________ Back in my day, we didn't have no fancy shmancy running shoes. We had to WALK.

This would be my first one...How ironic, for years Feraligatr was one of, if not my very favourite pokemon. :3
I love the Walk through walls code. It's fun to use. (Although I don't use it for my actual Pearl, I *USED* to use it for my AR'd Firered.) :) Getting shinys were fun, too. Too bad it messes up your game if you do it wrong... >_>; _________________ Back in my day, we didn't have no fancy shmancy running shoes. We had to WALK.

My favorite code is the "super lvl up" code. Or something like that. The one where you get 9999 exp. I only use it on my weak pokemon to make them as strong as my current team. _________________

I love the Missingno. cheat! Err, wait, that's a glitch...
I like the code to make Mew your starter in Blue/Red. :3
Maybe I should make this topic "Pokemon Cheat Codes"?
