How can I enjoy a book?

anyone read it? I'm pretty sure amjam does. well, people in the states(if you live out of U.S.) are on the 4th manga. I went to the bookstore today and read it. took about half an hour. I wanted to read my other one, O-Parts Hunter, but didn't have enough time. somehow I Wish(pun w/ name) reading in school was like a manga book, it would be much much easier and more enjoying. Can anyone tell me how I can enjoy a book? I've tried imagining it in my own way, like anime and pokemon and w/e in it, but it never seemed to click. I only enjoy comics, manga, magazines. SO can anyone help me?

to enjoy a book? Get something you're interested in, not something just to get it. Get a book that catches you by the desc. and makes you go omg i really want to read this! Try reading in a quiet place all by yourself, noise can get in the way (if it does, like I cant hear anything once im into something so it doesn't matter for me)

One reason you may not be able to visualize as well may be because the author isn't as descriptive as they could have been, don't force yourself to imagine, just let it flooow

Not sure if ANY of that helped or will help xD

I don't know if I'll be any help with this at all. I can't enjoy a book anymore. Not a written book anyway. Like novels and whatnot? Yeah, can't read 'em. I need pictures. I can read comic books and manga just fine but I have a hard time with books.

Why? Well, because I'm an author (not professional) myself. I got used to my own writing style. When I read a book, all that I can see is the differences in the style between me and the author. It drives me nuts!

So all through my junior and high school career . . . I didn't once read an assigned book. Not a single one. That caused a little trouble when it came to quizes and tests . . . so I don't recommend it.

There is one thing you might could try. I don't know if it'll work or not but maybe. I read a book once with really weird names in it and I kept getting distracted by trying to figure out the names. I couldn't focus! So, I put my friends' names in their place. Then it made it really interesting to read because one of my friends was absolutely crazy!

You could try that but I'm not sure it'll help.

hmmm...I've read books before, just forced onto me though. I read the 2nd harry potter book once. I started when I was like 7, and just last school year I finished. I'm always distracted by such things like games and shows. Just last year, I finished(sorta) reading The Giver. It was good, and I aced the A.R.(accelerated reader) test so it upped my grade. The end of school is near, and I just realized what I may enjoy, thanks to my friend. Lemony Snicket. It has about 400 pages, but takes like less than a minute to finish a page off. It also ahas action, so it'll be helpful. It also adds points.

A.R.(accelerated reading)
A.R. is basically the reading grade on my report card. that's what it's based on. At the beginning of the school year, you must take a test to see what book levels you should read. I took the test and got 6.0-10. That's pretty high so it's a bit harder. Certain books contain max points! Like Harry potter books. once the book is finished, you can take the test. Harry potter books are like 20 points. getting like 14 points is an automatic A! but for some reason, I wish (pun somewhere with my username) books were like mangas and comics....

Who, me? Read what? Blarg.

Personally, I'm very into theatre and acting. I mean, aside from my anime/manga/art hobbies. I often have a vivid "movie" playing in my head the entire time. I also like distractions, to fuel my ADD/ADHD. I'll be listening to loud music and writing a fanfic while planning a mini-comic or art project in my head. It bothers my sister when she sees me doing homework with the iPod on, mouthing the lyrics and writing something completely and totally different.
When I'm reading, it's pretty much like a theater production in my head. Don't know if that helps you. Try something fun like Dune or Into Thin Air; something you can't put down or that interests you. Read an article about the anime industry. Once you get back "into" it, you can juggle manga and "print books" together.

I normally would do what Magic said; read in a quiet place and if it isn't interesting in the discription, I don't read it.

Hmm, well all that helps but I think I'll just try stalling. Thanks for all your help!

I like all types of novels. I especially Like the Vampire Kisses Series, because it is so predictible you get through it by reading to see if you are right or not. (I was right 101% of the time. yeah, I was so right that it wasn't funny.)

I don't read much manga but sometimes when I read a novel, I pucture manga characters instead of real people.
