Sheer Power

So we all know that Just Gotta is a fan work. (At least I hope so. Kinda sad if you didn't . . .) Those who have visited my website may have seen Different, an original comic. (Which has been put on hold for a while until I get more practice with Manga Studio and my art in general.) But my heart and focus will always belong to my biggest project, a story/series entitled Sheer Power.

It's the story of Seisho Koujin. He's twenty-years-old and living in Vigor City. He is learning to be an energy user, people who can control their energy to give them special powers. (Think Dragon Ball Z or YuYu Hakasho.) Energy users are somewhat common. Fights between them are usually seen on a daily basis. They are like our athletes. They are admired and by the masses. But energy users are very self-centered. They believe they have to only care about themselves and those close to them in order to properly use their energy. So basically, if you needed help and asked an energy user, he wouldn't do it unless you were a close relative or friend. Pretty mean, right?

Well, that's a problem for Seisho. He likes helping people. He doesn't want to be self-centered. He also doesn't really like fighting. His master, Juto Ikasu, is trying to change that. Juto sees great potential in Seisho, but knows that he will never be a great energy user unless he starts to ignore people like he should.

And so there's a basic rundown. I had the first story written and then the second, but then I decided to go back to redo the first. I've gotten into Chapter 3. Only one other person has read this new version so far.

For the heck of it . . . I decided to put a piece up here to see what you guys think. (This post is already pretty long so sorry.) This is the first page of Sheer Power. It's written meant to be a Manga, so there may not be a whole lot of detail. It's mostly just for me to keep things straight. Hope you like it! Let me know what you think!

Chapter 1: A Master and His Student

A tall man stood atop a building. He was looking out in front of him, but appeared to be looking into nothing. He was wearing an old fashioned robe with decorative designs. His eyes were a deep blue that did not shine or show emotion. The front of his hair was red, while the rest in back was pure white.

He stood there silently, not moving. Across the street a ways was a building. In front of it was a sign that read, “Vigor City Hospital.”

Inside, on the third floor, a man and woman were walking down the hall with another man wearing a long, white coat. He was also wearing a stethoscope and was carrying a clipboard in one hand.

“Your son’s heart beat has improved greatly with this last surgery,” he told them. “His recovery has gone well.”

“So will he get better?” the woman asked him.

“Well, maybe not completely,” he said. “Gessori has had a weak heart since birth, and I’m not sure any amount of surgery will fix that. He has, however, improved a lot. He will never be as active as other children, but he has taken the first step towards a more normal life.”

They stopped in front of a room. The doctor opened the door and they stepped inside. There was a young boy with light brown sleeping in the hospital bed. His skin was a little pale. There was a monitor next to his bed monitoring his vital signs. It beeped very slowly and weakly along with the boy’s heart.

“Part of that step is to go home,” the doctor said. “I’m releasing him tomorrow morning. He can finish his recovery at home.”

The man and woman smiled.

“He can finally go home?” the man asked. “That’s great!”

“It’s been so long,” the woman agreed. “He’ll be so happy when he finds out.”

“Just be careful,” the doctor warned, turning to them. “Remember, his heart is still weak. If he feels weak or light headed, bring him back immediately.”

“We will,” the woman nodded. “Thank you, Doctor. You’ve helped Gessori so much.”

“It was my pleasure, Mrs. Kin,” the doctor assured her. “It is my hope that Gessori will finally be able to put this hospital behind him.”

The doctor then started to walk by them.

“If you’ll excuse me,” he said, “I have another patient to check on.”

“Of course,” Mr. Kin said.

The doctor left the room, leaving Mr. and Mrs. Kin alone with their son, Gessori. They both looked at him, both smiling.

“He’ll be so excited,” Mr. Kin grinned.

Mrs. Kin didn’t say anything for a moment.

“What do you think . . . he dreams about?” she asked.

Mr. Kin looked at her. His wife continued to look at Gessori.

“I’ve never asked him,” she went on. “He’s been in and out of this hospital so many times, and been here so long . . . I wonder if this is all he knows. I wonder if this . . . is what he has dreams about.”

Mr. Kin looked back at Gessori.

“No,” he said. “I don’t think so.” He smiled. “I think he dreams about being free.”

Outside, still across the street, the man with white and red hair was still standing on top of the building. After another moment of silence, he finally said something.

“The next step is about to be taken.”

Cool! It sounds like an admirable project. I have something similar myself, though I've always thought of it as being more like the novel I'll never finish... I'd love to read this sometime, in print or in manga.

This scene reminded me of Joshua, from Chrono Crusade. XD'

Thanks!

Yeah, finishing books is a lot of work. People are always surprised to hear I've written two. Too bad I'm redoing the first.

Well, I hope you can! I will probably post a little more here, or e-mail or private message it to those who would like to read more. Depends on interest.

Yeah? Never seen it so I wouldn't know. How so, just out of curiousity?

Really? Are they published (Aka - I want to buy them)? Also, I'm probably entering NaNoWriMo this year so I'll have finished one then... XDD Sort of. Technically. Not the best of my skills but it'll be long and a full storyline so...

I'd love to read more. It's a very intriguing story. This part caught my eye.

He's very sickly and he's always wanted to be stronger, but when he finally gains the strength he's always wanted, he isn't able to fulfill his dreams because he can't control himself enough to stop from hurting those he loves. Of course, I didn't go that deep... XD I just remembered him as always being in bed, unable to play outside.

Sadly no. I would like them to be sometime in the future. I just want them to be perfect. I could have already tried but then I changed my mind on so many things in the first one, it just has to be completely redone before I can consider sending it anywhere again.

But it's cool to know that if they were published, you'd want one! Thank you!

Well, great! I'll go ahead and put up the next piece so we can see if your interest continues. It'll be below.

Ah. It's interesting when I come up with ideas that are at least a little similar to those already in existance. I always say they steal stuff from me. (Not that they actually could. And I come up with idea before I find out about theirs so I didn't steal either.)

Okay. Here's the next little part. Not quite a page but almost.

The student’s eyes snapped open.

What was that? he wondered, glancing around.

His master was next to him. He didn’t move.

“I didn’t tell you to stop yet, Seisho,” he said softly yet threateningly.

“Sorry, Master,” Seisho apologized.

Seisho relaxed and closed his eyes again. The two of them were sitting on two mats on the floor of a study. Book shelves lined the walls. Behind Seisho and his master was a desk and computer. In front of them next to a shelf was the doorway out.

Seisho sat there for a moment, but then opened one eye and looked at his master. Seisho was a twenty-year-old man just reaching six feet in height. He had spiked red hair, but only in the front and on the back of his neck. The rest of his hair was black.

Seisho opened both eyes.

“Master Juto?” he asked.

Juto grunted, annoyed. He opened his brown eyes and looked at Seisho. Juto was ten years older and five inches taller than Seisho, and had much more experience behind him. Juto had spiked black hair and a goatee that spiked much the same way.

“What?” he growled.

“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” Seisho told him. “Can you meet people while meditating?”

“What?” Juto asked again, but this time more confused.

“While you’re meditating,” he said. “Can you meet other people?”

“I don’t know,” he admitted, getting annoyed again. “Why?”

“’Cause I think I have,” Seisho said. “I was meditating like normal but suddenly I was in this snowy field. There was this boy and . . .”

Juto didn’t wait for him to finish his story. He instead hit Seisho over the head with a fist.

“Ow!” Seisho complained, rubbing his head. “What did I do now?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Juto said, “but whatever you saw in there sure as heck wasn’t about you! I’ve told you a million times, you have to start thinking about yourself!”

“It’s not my fault,” Seisho defended. “I was meditating just like you told me to and then . . .”

Juto hit him again. Seisho grunted loudly.

“We need to stop anyway,” Juto said, standing up. “We’re going to town.”

“Town?” Seisho asked, looking at him while still rubbing his head. “What for?”

“We just are,” Juto muttered. “Come on, Kid.”

Juto headed out of the room. Seisho quickly stood up and went after him.

“Yes, Master,” he said.

Oh, he's your icon! Haha'

I like it... already the theme of selfishness.
Vye Brante

Hee hee, yup! Seisho's my avatar! Out of all of my characters, out of all of my stories, Seisho is my favorite. That's why I switched back to him on Smack Jeeves. I missed him.

Congrats on catching on to that!

Glad you like it so far!

I'm bored right now. Should be working on the next page of Just Gotta but . . . uh . . . um . . .

Shoot, can't think of an excuse!

Anyway, here's the next part, for the heck of it. It's a little longer than I'd like for this point of the story. It's just supposed to give a little more detail on the self-centered belief system the energy users have. Some parts may be cut in the final version, but we'll see.

And it's setting up Seisho and Juto's relationship a bit more. Hee hee, I love them. Their relationship is one of the main focuses of the series, so pay attention to it.

Here we go.

********

Juto and Seisho walked down the snowy path towards Vigor City. Juto’s house was behind them, hidden among the trees. Juto was leading Seisho through the forest silently. The snow crunched beneath their feet.

Seisho was looked at Juto closely. Juto didn’t seem to notice.

“Master, are you mad at me?” he asked.

Juto didn’t answer right away.

“Not . . . exactly,” he said. “I’m annoyed that after all this time, you still can’t seem to think about yourself the way you should. You can’t become the energy user I know you can be if you don’t do this the right way.”

“You said I’m only supposed to think of myself, right?” Seisho said. “But I still work for you. How am I supposed to clean your house while only thinking about me?”

“You’re just making up excuses and you know it,” Juto scolded.

“But it doesn’t make sense,” Seisho said. “I can’t keep working for you if I only care about me. I have to worry about what you need to have done.”

“Don’t read too much into like that,” Juto said, still leading Seisho through the trees. “You needed money, so you came to work for me. Your job is to do whatever chore I give you. Only by doing those chores can you get money to support yourself. By working for me you are really helping yourself.”

“I guess that makes sense,” he sighed.

Seisho paused.

“If someone asks me for help, am I just supposed to walk away?” he asked finally. “How can I do that? People need help sometimes. How do you expect me to not do anything?”

“If it’s convenient to you,” Juto said, “there’s nothing wrong with helping someone when they ask. And if you know them it’s not a problem. It’s this volunteering and going out of your way to help complete strangers that needs to stop.”

“And what about the Keikan Tournament thing?” Seisho asked.

Juto stopped walking and looked at him.

“What thing?” he asked, confused.

“You won the Keikan three years in a row, right?” Seisho stated. “None of the fighters before you managed to even win twice in a row, and you did it three times. You got pretty famous because of that.”

“Yeah, so?” he grumbled.

“I dunno,” Seisho shrugged. “People will invite you to the opening of buildings or whatever for publicity. You do it every once in a while. Isn’t that helping people?”

“Seisho,” Juto sighed, “there’s a difference between me doing things for people and you doing things for people.”

“And what’s that?” he asked.

“I do it to get them to leave me alone,” he said. “I have better things to do with my time than listen to them begging all day. But you? You spend your free time helping people. You’re always helping whoever you can when you could be doing something important.”

“Like what?” he questioned.

“Like concentrating on your training for one thing,” Juto muttered.

“Is that your answer for everything?” Seisho asked. “I have to think only about myself because of my training?”

“Shouldn’t that be enough?” Juto shrugged.

Seisho sighed.

“I told you when I started that I wouldn’t be very good at it,” he reminded him.

Juto let out a laugh. He looked at him with a smile.

“Yes,” he said, “yes you did. I knew what I was getting into when I started training you, Kid.”

Seisho smiled too, but then Juto turned away, looking annoyed again.

“But that doesn’t change the fact that you’re doing it all wrong!” he snapped, heading down the path again.

Seisho stood there, rubbing the back of his head awkwardly. Then he hurried after his master again.
kirbyboy102

oh. my . god. AWESOME! I love it.
Vye Brante

Heh, thank you! I'm glad. I love it too. (Just to toot my own horn . . .)
kirbyboy102

question! Can we put up non-pokemon related stories in this forum?

And Juto is awesome. I didn't catch on to your avatar until Amjam said something. Embarassed
Vye Brante

Juto fan, huh? Cool.

And yeah, you can put stories on here. You can either put them under the Off Topic or Stories. I don't really care if it's Pokemon related or not. (Hope Georgia agrees.)
